I've heard comments about Melville's wordiness and I now know why. He has painted a very colorful image though and it seemed like it was over just when I got used to his style. So, I read it again.
What a sad story. I kept waiting for Billy to emerge vociferous to save himself and was disappointed at the rather abrupt and tragic end.
I had to make frequent use of my dictionary as I was reading it the first time through. It flowed much better the second time as I didn't stop to look anything up.
Now that I am somewhat familiar with Melville's style, be watching for "Moby Dick" to show up in the future as my book of the month.
