"Dragon Heart"

I saw the movie "Dragon Heart" this afternoon, and really enjoyed it a lot. Most of the reviews I heard about it talked about the visual effects; I am not impressed with special effects. I still thought this movie was very good anyway.

I saw it with a couple of friends and my wife Julie. Between the three of them they were able to keep me informed of what was going on when there was no dialog. Descriptive videos are becoming more available, and I have seen other movies in this format, but Julie and my friends are getting pretty good at describing the action to me. Most of the time I don't even have to ask "what the hell was that all about?" anymore.

I liked the story, and thought that it moved well. It was very predictable though, and I was able to guess what was going to happen well before it did, but that was mostly due to the "old code" they keep referring to throughout the film. Predictable movies usually bore me, but this one didn't. I'm not sure why; maybe just because the story flowed so well. I never lost interest, and was just glad to see that I was right when my predictions were correct.

I was left with a curiosity about the old code of the knights, and will probably be reading more about knights and dragons now. I recommend this movie to anyone. It's a nice story, and very entertaining even without seeing what I am told are some excellent special effects. Another great example of absolute power absolutely corrupting, and the inevitable triumph of good over evil.
