Gone Mudding

Not much has changed since last week. In a nutshell, I'm still trying to make sense out of all of the rules; both real-life, and virtual. I did get that appointment with DVR set up for next week, so I'll know more about the real-life stuff after that meeting.

As for the virtual rules: they keep on changing. Within an hour of posting last week's entry in this electronic journal, I received an email from my most loyal reader, Timothy, in Pennsylvania. Tim, from time to time, provides me with links to websites I might find interesting, but this time he writes:

Greg, thanks for the StarMud telnet link.

I never knew it was out there. I always enjoyed the Zork text adventures when they came out. I feel like a teenager again!

Cool. I'll see you in the MUD, Tim. My brother, Kevin, is also back in the game. It's been nearly a year since I did any "mudding" and the rules have changed considerably -- and there are plenty of them -- but I'm getting them down by and by. At least if I get into trouble I have a friend in the home office so to speak.

Last week, I got an email from a "god" of StarMud, Blackheart (actually his name is Thomas). He said that he was searching for StarMud on the web to see what people are writing about it. The story of mine, which he found was from last March when I discovered that they purged the player file and I was back to square one. After reading that bulletin, he wrote:

I'm sorry we had to purge your character. I hope you enjoyed your stay, and you are always welcome back. I'm getting old and mushy I think, so you risk no new purges.

I wrote back informing him of my latest column, and that I was starting my new character, Pip. Just today, while I was in the MUD I chatted with Blackheart briefly. He said that he read my pages and would continue to do so. Nice to know I've got a reader in Sweden now.

And, since I don't know what else to say this week, I will leave you with just this short piece. I sure hope I've got more to say next week.
